Danielle Lipple, 28, was born with a vascular malformation, a rare birthmark caused by abnormal blood vessel development. The mark covers her lower face, neck, and the inside of her mouth, making it more than a cosmetic issue. Over her life, Danielle has undergone over 20 laser surgeries, not only to lighten the birthmark but to address health risks such as bleeding and swelling.
Her journey hasn’t been easy. As a child, strangers often mistook her birthmark for a bruise or rash, prompting her parents to explain it countless times. They decided to start treatment early, turning each laser surgery into as positive an experience as possible for their daughter. Despite this, Danielle’s adolescence was marked by painful procedures, including a third-degree burn during sclerotherapy and multiple plastic surgeries to reduce swelling in her lower lip.
Danielle’s confidence grew over time, especially after meeting her now-husband, Zackary, in college. His acceptance of her birthmark was immediate and unconditional. In 2019, Danielle resumed laser treatments to manage potential complications but emphasized that her birthmark is part of who she is.
While strangers often offer unsolicited opinions—some admiring, others invasive—Danielle has never seen herself as a victim. With the love of her family and friends, she’s learned to embrace her unique features and live life on her terms.
