Rural America Sees Rising Cardiovascular Deaths Post-Pandemic

A study presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions has highlighted an alarming increase in cardiovascular deaths in rural America, particularly among adults aged 25 to 64. This trend, which worsened after the COVID-19 pandemic, underscores long-standing disparities in rural health. Cardiovascular deaths in rural areas increased by 0.8% between 2010 and 2022, while urban areas saw a 6.4% decrease. Factors like high obesity rates, limited access to healthcare, and pandemic-related delays in medical care are contributing to this growing crisis. Experts emphasize the need for expanded health insurance, poverty reduction, and improved public health education to address these disparities.
